We have a balanced portfolio of generating assets and development opportunities in the on-shore wind, biomass, flexible energy, district heating networks and solar power sectors.

With a heritage of supporting low-carbon energy projects over the last 10 years, we have the determination and expertise to develop, build and operate secure, affordable and clean energy projects across the country. Peel Energy is responsible for the development of over 300MW of energy projects across the UK, enough to power over 180,000 homes.

Types of low carbon energy:

The UK needs low cost, secure and low carbon energy

Peel Energy remains committed to the development of affordable secure and clean energy projects.

The UK introduced a legally binding commitment to reduce UK greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% by 2050 when compared to 1990 levels. Today, around 60% of emissions come from electricity, heat production and travel.

Progress has been made. Between 1990 and 2016 emissions from energy supply decreased by 54% with Peel Energy playing a role in the development of a number of significant onshore wind farm and biomass developments over this period. But more action is needed to meet the 2050 targets.

Stated government intentions remain to:

  • Source 15% of all energy from renewable sources by 2020
  • Generate up to 35% of electricity from renewable sources by 2020
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions: a reduction of at least 34% by 2020, and at least an 80% cut by 2050
  • Increase the amount of heat generated from renewable and low carbon sources that can be used by industry, businesses and housing.

The total of all low carbon electricity sources provided for 47% of the electricity generated in the United Kingdom in 2016, double the level in 2010.

The Scottish Government has set a target to generate the equivalent of 100% of the country's gross electricity consumption and 11% of heat consumption from renewables by 2020 – renewables contributed nearly 60% in 2015.
