Noise
|
Like any machinery, wind turbines create sound during their operation, and care must therefore be taken to ensure that they are located so they do not disturb local residents.
There are strict controls on noise levels, and turbines will not be allowed to be erected in places where noise from the turbines is identified as having the potential to cause a significant issue.
Any noise from the wind farm should be in accordance with the provisions of the national guidelines ETSU-R-97 The Assessment and Rating of Noise from Wind Farms. The guidance requires a survey of background noise levels and wind speeds, and computer predictions of the noise from the turbines.
We have undertaken background noise measurements, in consultation with the Environmental Health Department of Melton Borough Council, to ensure that the requirements of ETSU-R-97 are met.
The findings of the noise surveys have directly influenced the final wind farm design that now consists of a reduced number of 9 turbines and not 10 turbines as originally proposed. |
