Community and local benefits

Community benefit fund

A community benefit fund is an established mechanism that enables energy companies to provide direct benefits to local communities that live near developments such as wind farms.

The community benefit fund is established outside the planning process and only materialises at the point the scheme comes into operation.

The community benefit fund would be managed by the local community for the local community.

Suggestions on similar projects for the use of a fund include contributing to the purchase and operation of an electric school bus, and improving community and youth recreational facilities.

Based on the current proposal, the Blue Sky Forest Wind Farm would provide at least £65,000 per annum to fund community projects over the life of the scheme.

We encourage you to give your ideas on what the funding could be used for and how the fund could be managed.

Co-operative ownership

Peel Energy is proposing to set up a co-operative to enable the local community to buy shares in and benefit financially from the wind farm.
