Why the former Steadsburn open cast site?
An average wind speed of 7.15m/s has been recorded through a met mast installed on the site over a five year period. The speed is suitable for commercial generation.
The turbines can be connected to the national grid through underground cables without needing additional overhead power lines.
The turbines would be located on former surface mining land and would be compatible with the sites restoration and regeneration plans.
The site allows for sufficient distance between the turbines and residential properties, enabling us to satisfy stringent noise regulations. The nearest property is over 700m away.
The future phases of Blue Sky Forest, that may include a hotel and events centre, would have a large demand for electricity. Meeting a significant amount of this demand from a renewable source will ensure long-term sustainability and carbon neutrality. The wind farm would also supply many homes and businesses in the surrounding area via the grid and help provide greater energy security.
