Why Barton

The site itself comprises about 4.3 hectares of vacant and inaccessible land owned by the Peel Group that is covered by low quality vegetation.

As well as having a site that is in a suitable location for a renewable energy plant, there are a number of other good reasons to develop the plant at Barton.

The site location has excellent access and serving infrastructure for both during construction, and for the delivery of fuel once the plant is operational. The canal side location is an important part of this infrastructure, not only for its potential for fuel deliveries, but also to increase plant efficiency through providing cooling water. The fact there is an available grid connection that would cause minimal disruption is a further asset of the site location.
