Why Broughton Lodge?
In November 2008, Peel Energy signed an agreement to develop wind farms across UK Coal's land portfolio.
Since then, we have completed an in-depth technical assessment of Broughton Lodge and believe it is an appropriate site for a small cluster of wind turbines.
Wind speed – The recorded average wind speed is 6.5 m/s.
Landscape – The site is outside important landscape designations (the Lake District National Park and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty).
Ecology – We believe that the development can be accommodated without causing significant harm to animals and plants. Any harm that is caused can be mitigated.
Noise – The turbines can be located sufficiently far from residential properties that noise nuisance does not occur.
Electrical connection – The turbines can be connected to the national grid through underground cables and without overhead power lines.
Derwent Forest – A Former Royal Naval Armaments depot is immediately to the west of the Broughton Lodge site and is earmarked for leisure/tourism-related development in the local plan. Our wind cluster is complementary and could be a source of renewable energy for this exciting proposal.
Britain's Energy CoastTM – West Cumbria has been designated Britain's Energy Coast by the government because of its historic contribution to energy generation and the many advantages it offers for the generation of new sources of renewable energy.
