Project evolution

Over several years, different options for the Broughton Lodge site have been explored in terms of turbine numbers, heights and composition.

The current proposal has been carefully refined in the light of information and advice received from our consultant team and organisations such as Natural England, the RSPB, Allerdale Borough Council and the Environment Agency.

We believe that the current proposal represents the best environmental fit taking into account all the known constraints, which are detailed in this section of the website.

Option 1

A development of eight turbines each 120 m high. Unfavourable owing to concerns regarding the ecological and visual impacts, and the proximity of some turbines to footpaths.

Option 2

A development of seven turbines each 117 m high. Not progressed because of concerns about the ecological and visual impacts, and the proximity of some turbines to footpaths.

Option 3

A development of five turbines each 107 m high. Unfavourable owing to concerns regarding the visual impact. It was felt that fewer larger turbines would be less harmful.

Option 4, current proposal and preferred option

A development of three turbines each 125 m high.
