Landscape and visual impact assessments

The impact of the proposed development on the existing landscape character, quality and value has been assessed. The turbines were considered individually and cumulatively.

The assessment process closely followed the guidance set out in several documents, including Cumbria Wind Energy: Supplementary Planning Document, and started with the identification of a zone of theoretical visibility (ZTV) using specialist computer software.

Thirty key viewpoints within the ZTV were identified in consultation with Allerdale Borough Council and were then photographed. Specialist computer software was used to generate a photomontage of the proposed development from each key viewpoint.

These images will form the basis for our landscape and visual impact assessments, which are being completed by a qualified landscape architect and are ongoing work.
