Environmental impact assessment

As part of the planning process, comprehensive environmental studies are being undertaken, the scope of which have been agreed with the relevant statutory bodies. These studies form the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and include:

Hydrology, geology and hydrogeology
Marine ecology
Traffic and transport
Socio-economic impact
Air quality
Landscape and visual impact
Noise
Cultural heritage.

In each case a three phase approach is adopted. Firstly work is undertaken to establish the baseline conditions relating to the site, for example, establishing which environmental designations are in existence or what species are found in the surrounding environment. Secondly, an analysis of the likely impact of the proposed development is made. The third stage is to detail how any impacts can be mitigated by, for instance, changing the design of the plant. The final EIA will be submitted with the planning application.
