Landscape and visual impact assessments

The potential impacts on landscape and visual receptors during the construction and operational phases of the proposed development have been assessed as part of the EIA. The scope and approach to the assessment and study area have been identified and agreed through consultation with The Highland Council and Scottish Natural Heritage in a process that commenced in Spring 2010.

The Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) has been conducted in accordance with the Guidelines for Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (Landscape Institute and Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment) and considers the potential effects on landscape and visual resources/receptors such as landscape character areas, landscape designations, settlements and transport routes.

The assessment was supported by the preparation of visibility mapping and the production of visualisations for a number of viewpoints in the region, the visualisations being prepared in accordance with The Highland Council’s standards.
