The site location

The proposed wind farm occupies an area of land known locally as Frodsham Marsh and Helsby Marsh. The land has been used for many years to deposit dredgings from the neighbouring Manchester Ship Canal.

The north western edge of the site is bounded by the Mersey Estuary and Manchester Ship Canal. To the north east of the site lies the River Weaver and Weaver Navigation, whilst along the south eastern and southern boundaries extends the M56 motorway beyond which are the towns of Frodsham and Helsby.

The site extends to some 557 hectares, although only a small fraction of this land would be taken up by the development. The proposed turbines would be located on the inactive deposit grounds, avoiding the central active lagoon, thereby splitting the turbines into two distinct clusters.
