Marshes CBF Third Round

Marshes CBF has announced the successful applicants from the third round of awards made by the community benefit fund.

Once again there was a great deal of interest, with the total funding sought being just over £216,000 against an available amount of £72,000. The independent Panel of local residents agreed to award £71,451 to seven projects which in the views of the Panel best met the requirements and objectives of the Community Benefit Fund.

The successful applicants are:

  • Helsby High School was awarded £35,000 towards the development of community netball courts which will also be available for other uses.
  • Hornsmill Pre-School in Helsby receives £20,000 for a footpath to improve pedestrian access from the A56 Chester Road, taking pressure off parking requirements at the school and surrounding areas.
  • Alvanley Cricket Club will receive partial funding of £10,000 towards new practice nets.
  • Radiate Arts, a CIC, was awarded £1,269 for table-top easels and an iPad for delivering its ‘Feel Great...Create’ art projects campaign involving primary school pupils and care homes for the elderly in the Fund area.
  • Helsby Community Association was awarded £2,100 for improvements to the disabled toilets at the Community Centre & Library.
  • Frodsham Volleyball Club received a further £1,129 to develop a 6-a-side team
  • Frodsham Players, a local theatre group, £1,953 will receive for new LED lighting.

Dianne Walker (Panel Chairman) explained that Panel members thought the standard of applications was high and difficult choices had to be made but, the Panel feels that the projects awarded funding will significantly benefit the residents in the areas surrounding the Frodsham Wind Farm.

The Panel members will be monitoring the projects as they develop to ensure they meet the objectives set out in the signed agreements. The small remainder of the funds available in this round, but not allocated to projects, will be carried forward in reserves.
