PhD students from Manchester University's IEEE Power and Energy Society, studying Electrical Engineering came to visit the wind farm on 24th July. We got some great feedback from the students:

" It was well organised offering an alternative insight into the complexities associated with onshore wind. The experts were friendly and open to questions."

"Very valuable experience to visit an industrial company related to the course we are studying."

Jon and Michael gave the students a tour of the wind farm which included a visit to the control room where a presentation was given, and where the students got to ask in-depth questions about the engineering and technical side of the site.

James Hill PhD researcher noted "It cannot be stressed enough just how useful the opportunity to get out into the 'real world' is for students so they can have a feel for the impact of their work". 

Even though we are a small team, we always try and accommodate requests from related professional institutions.

Sascha and Rockstar team up with Arnold

In April we introduced you to our furry friend Arnold, now meet Sascha and Rockstar who are also part of our environmental survey team!    All three will be on the wind farm till the end of September, helping us out with our bat   surveying.

Peel Energy announces plans to install district energy at Liverpool Waters

Peel Energy, the low carbon energy arm of Peel Land and Property, has announced plans to develop a district heat network at its ambitious Liverpool Waters development, under the name of Mersey Heat.  The first phase of the network is centred on existing buildings around Princes Dock along with planned new developments along the waterfront. The heat network will deliver low carbon hot water for the use of space heating and hot water provision within the buildings.  Peel Energy will operate the network through an energy services company called Mersey Heat, which will be responsible for system design, construction of the generation plant and operation of the network, providing low cost, low carbon reliable heat to the building owners and occupiers.  Development at Liverpool Waters will enjoy the benefits of a low cost, reliable heating and hot water solution for the buildings by connecting to the network, which will also have long term cost benefits for occupiers.  Muir Miller, Managing Director of Peel Energy, which also developed the wind turbines at Port of Liverpool said; “Our colleagues and their development partners are producing a first-rate product at Liverpool Waters and it deserves a 21st century heating system to match.  We believe that Mersey Heat can make a significant positive impact on the low carbon credentials of the project and provide cost benefits to developers and occupiers as well.  We are very excited at the prospect of deploying the first phase of the network and seeing how far it can grow.”   Peel’s Development Director for Liverpool Waters, Darran Lawless said: “Liverpool Waters includes the regeneration of 60 hectares of former dockland to create a high quality, mixed use waterfront development which will bring huge commercial and retail opportunity as well as over 9,000 new homes. The fact we can offer low cost, low carbon heat to a development on this scale is a fantastic step forward in us delivering a sustainable community where people can live, work and play.”    This will be Peel’s second district heat project after the successful installation at MediaCityUK in Salford which has been in operation since 2009 supplying such blue-chip customers as the BBC and University of Salford as part of the world’s first BREEAM approved sustainable community.

Peel Energy Complete the ‘Urban Challenge’

Last Friday a group from Peel Energy joined over 500 people in taking part in MediaCityUK’s Urban Challenge. The challenge was set around a 6km assault course in Salford Quays and included a fair amount of grueling obstacles. The team managed to navigate through a sprint carrying sandbags, wooden hurdles, plastic pipes, monkey bars and a giant inflatable slide into the docks followed by a 100m meter swim.

The course finished with a 15ft wall climb, which was not for the faint of heart.

A day that started in the rain, finished in the sun with the whole team making it across the line together and in one piece....just. It is safe to say that some of us are now proudly supporting some substantial bumps and bruises!

Congratulations to the members of the team that took part and completed the course, and thank you to MediaCityUK and JLL for making the event happen.

HELSBY HIGH NETBALL & TENNIS COURT MAKEOVER- £35,000 CBF.

As most people know already, as a company Frodsham Wind Farm is committed to providing an annual community benefit fund of £120,000 which is to be used towards communal projects to benefit the local communities.

In the month of May Helsby High School was successful in its application and £35,000 is going towards resurfacing the netball and tennis courts. This is a great on-going project as the courts are available to not only the students of the school but open to people of the community to go and enjoy a game with friends and family. This is terrific project that the fund is helping towards and we are looking forward to seeing the finished courts.

Applications are now being applied for Round 4 with £60,000 available, the deadline to get application forms in is the 31st August 2018.
