Peel Energy is pleased to announce it will be hosting a public open day at Scout Moor wind farm, which is located to the north of Manchester, on Saturday, 25 September.
At 65MW, Scout Moor wind farm is currently the largest operational onshore facility in England and has the capacity to produce enough electricity for the average annual needs of approximately 40,000 homes throughout its 25-year lifespan.
The open day aims to provide an enjoyable and educational family day out, which combines a walk on the moor with information about how the wind farm is helping to meet energy demands and contributing to the improvement of local wildlife habitats.
Jonathan England, Peel Energy Director, said: “The wind farm has been operational since 2008 and has been making a significant contribution to local energy needs during this time, but we want people to know that the Scout Moor wind farm is offering much more to the local area and community.
“The moor is an ideal place to view wildlife, and a proportion of the revenue from the wind farm goes directly towards protecting and enhancing local habitats through the Habitat Enhancement Fund.
“We also want to ensure that the local community is making the most of Scout Moor as an accessible location ideal for walking, cycling or just admiring the beautiful views.”
The open day will provide an opportunity for the public to find out how the wind farm works by talking to members of the Peel Energy team and looking inside one of the wind turbines.
The Peel Energy team will be on site between 11am and 2pm. Access is via the public footpath leading from the lay-by opposite the Owd Betts pub (OL12 7TY) on the A680 near Edenfield.
Note: Suitable clothing and footwear are required for walking on the moor. The event is subject to cancellation in the event of adverse weather on the day.
