Multi-fuel and CCS
|
Peel Energy's commitment towards a low carbon Britain includes a real commitment to deliver carbon capture and storage (CCS) at commercial scale.

Ayrshire Power Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Peel Energy has submitted a planning application for a new multi-fuel power station with Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology at Hunterston, North Ayrshire.
Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) technology allows carbon dioxide to be captured from carbon-based fuel power stations, then transported and stored safely to prevent it from entering the atmosphere. The individual technologies are not new but they continue to develop and have yet to be combined at a commercial scale.
Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology has evolved and it is considered that within the near future it will be possible to install large scale CCS facilities based on commercially available technologies. This technology, along with the stringent emissions standards, means that the burning of fossil fuels should no longer be considered a “dirty” means of generating electricity.
