Public exhibition will show updated Wind Farm proposals

October 18, 2010

Next week (27th and 28th October 2010), Peel Energy will display their proposals for a Wind Farm at the site of the former Asfordby mine.

This is the latest in a series of consultation events. The low carbon energy company held two drop-in sessions in August and organised a visit to an operational Wind Farm in September.

Peel Energy has undertaken and now completed extensive environmental and technical studies, including acoustic surveys around the site.

This exhibition will show members of the public the results of these technical studies and provide more detailed information, including photomontages of how the turbines would look from a range of viewpoints in the surrounding areas.

If approved this scheme could generate enough electricity to meet the average needs of more than 8,500 homes – approximately 33% of the households in the Borough of Melton. It would allow Leicestershire to make a significant contribution to national renewable energy targets that aim to secure energy supplies and reduce carbon emissions.

Patrick Keogh, Project Manager for Peel Energy said:

“We have now reviewed the valuable feedback we received from the drop-in sessions and completed our technical studies.

Peel Energy is keen to share the results and revised proposals for the Wind Farm and would encourage members of the local community to visit the exhibition and take the opportunity to talk to members of the team.

Following the feedback received at the drop-in sessions and the findings of environmental studies, the revised proposals include a reduction in the number of turbines from ten to nine and we have also reduced the height of one of the turbines to reduce the impact on the landscape.

We are intending to submit a formal planning application to Melton Borough Council following the public exhibition.”
