Scout Moor Wind Farm

Why expand?

Peel Energy’s existing turbines on Scout Moor have consistently generated large amounts of electricity used by the regions homes and business. The wind farms performance has proven the value of the site for electricity generation and the opportunity to make a significant contribution to our energy needs and emission targets.

The following features of the site make it potentially suitable for additional turbines:

  • A record of high site wind speeds
  • Existing vehicle access and grid infrastructure
  • Turbines are already part of the areas landscape
  • Recognised by the South Pennine Authorities as a potential area for wind energy development*
  • The Northwest region has established support services

The expansion would provide the following benefits:

  • Generate significant amounts of renewable electricity, providing greater energy security
  • Contribute to achieving national targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Potential to restore heavily degraded peat moor and retain sequestered carbon through improving habitats and water quality.
  • Opportunity to further enhance relationships with educational institutes
  • Improved public access enabling the moor to be sustainably used as a local amenity and visitor destination
  • A substantial Community Benefit Fund over the life of the scheme for local projects
  • Opportunity for the local community to buy shares in and benefit financially from the wind farm through co-operative ownership
