Scout Moor Wind Farm
|
Scout Moor Wind Farm, operational from 2008, is a 26-turbine development on moorland in the South Pennines situated between the village of Edenfield, Lancashire, and the town of Rochdale, Greater Manchester. Each of the Nordex N80 turbines has the capacity to generate 2.5MW of electricity, which means that the wind farm has an installed capacity of 65MW.
During 2009, the first full year of operation, the wind farm generated enough electricity to meet the needs of 32, 628 homes* – equivalent to 44% of domestic use in the borough of Rochdale.
A new dedicated substation has been built near Ashworth Moor reservoir to export the electricity to the National Grid.
The moor and the wind farm are accessible via a public footpath leading from the parking area along Edenfield Road, opposite Owd Betts public house.
