Funding’s provided for practical and positive projects that have a high potential to bring about the restoration to favourable condition of blanket bogs or upland habitats, and/or to deliver conditions that are favourable to upland breeding birds.
Payments are considered for activities such as:
- Grip-blocking (re-wetting)
- Heather restoration
- Stock reductions, including fencing.
- selective control of bracken
- Removal of trees and shrubs from mires
- Creation of wet grassland and marshland
- Funding availability
Projects are funded using revenue derived from the operation of Scout Moor Wind Farm. Payments have been from the first year of operation and will be made annually until the wind farm is decommissioned after 25 years.
The total HEP fund available is around £500,000, and is linked to Inflation. It is intended that grants made in the early years of are directed at capital works, while later grants would mainly be for maintenance and/or management activities relating to previously HEP funded projects. |
