Multi-fuel and CCS

Peel Energy's commitment towards a low carbon Britain includes a real commitment to deliver carbon capture and storage (CCS) at commercial scale.

We have teamed up with DONG Energy, one of Europe's most respected thermal and wind power generators and suppliers, to develop solutions that will make fossil-fuelled power generation a genuine low-carbon route for the UK.

The joint venture will harness Peel's infrastructure and regulatory expertise and DONG Energy's carbon capture and storage (CCS) technological knowledge. CCS technology allows carbon dioxide to be captured from carbon-based fuel power stations, then transported and stored safely to prevent it from entering the atmosphere. The individual technologies are not new but they continue to develop and have yet to be combined at a commercial scale.

The UK Government supports the EU's ambition to have up to 12 CCS demonstration projects operational in Europe by 2015 and has launched a competition to deliver a full chain of the technologies at commercial scale. The Peel Energy and DONG Energy consortium successfully pre-qualified for the competition.
